A Little bit about the great organization Building Beats –

Building Beats provides DJ and music programs that teach entrepreneurial, leadership, and life skills to underserved youth.

Since 2013, @buildingbeats has developed and expanded dj and digital music production programs, instilling entrepreneurship, leadership, and life skills in new york city’s low-income and minority youth. With a strong belief in activating students’ passion for music as a pathway to build entrepreneurial skills, we provide students with the structure, tools, and knowledge necessary to become self-directed, creative producers who harness their creative potential to benefit their community.

Beginning as a small cohort of programs located in communities in the bronx and manhattan, building beats has since implemented over 2,500 in-school and after-school workshops in djing and digital music production – over 1,100 in the 2015-2016 school year alone in 27 schools and community centers throughout the new york city. For the 2016-2017 school year, building beats held 1,400 after-school workshops at over 30 sites, affecting over 300 students on a weekly basis.
