I promised to be better about recapping, so here w I promised to be better about recapping, so here we go. A couple of selfies from a pretty amazing weekend celebrating 40 years of @dmcdjchamps. God, when I first got into the battle scene... Who knows how many man hours I put into trying to be crowned a champ one day. Unfortunately I learned quickly that no matter how I tried there was gonna be a ceiling I could never break thru. The talent pool, the skillsets and technics were just growing at a massive pace in the late 90s. And the competition we had were the gold standard. My crew the 5th platoon had to fight the x-men, beatjunkies, the allies... The crews who are all considered gods by anyone who does this. Anyway it's fine, I did alright with that touring thing with Jay-Z and all so... :) The 1st time I went to a world dmc finals was in Rimini Italy, where @atrak would get his historic win. The next 2 times I went to the world finals was when I got to see my crewmate I.emerg win them back to back... This was my first time witnessing one in person in a very long time, and I gotta say, it was great to be a witness. A little mix of a reunion between the old heads, and meeting and witnessing the new blood. This event gave me some energy, reminded me why I fell in love with it in the 1st place. 📸 1) The legend - Tony prince. I was so happy to see the guy in person once again. I owe a lot to this gentleman right here. 2) The man with the plan WHO is running the show now @antriks. He did an amazing job introducing new formats and putting it all together. CONGRATS to u and the team. 3&4) Latest world Champs to be crowned FROM Oz and Brazil @beastmodekilledit @djraylen 5) The Hawaii contingency @tittahbyte & host @djrevise aka Aloha sisqo 6) Duo known as @thuglimusic @patdrastik @tomwrecks 7) The brown contingency @djangelouk urs truly and @dj_uri_scratch 8) An old US champ and a new one @crazearoni @thekidrc3 9) @imageemusic who I haven't seen in at least 20yrs 10) Beatjunkie x isp @djdstyles 11) One of Japan's #45 selectors @shingo_takahashi_iudp 12) @djrevise & @jessedeandesigns 13) Thailand's @djstayhigh 14) @djidee who I probably haven't seen in person in 20 years 15) @djbabuforeal on the cut

It's the FRIDAY NIGHT DANCE - CITY POP, CLASSICS, BOOGIE AND FUNK. $10 COVER. Wear comfortable shoes. Finally reuniting with my gemini twin @dj_bles_sed ... Something for Halloween (will post up the info later) and then an #allvinyl all #rnb slow jam affair called @momentsinlovenyc at @dickandjanes Nov 5th wednesday 8 pm - Midnite. Then I'm heading out to the bay area - San Jose to be exact. I'll be rocking 2 vinyl gigs - One with @dj_yamix @rystylz @dj_nino_yello aka the 2 nice crew for first Friday Nov 7th at @narrative_fermentations... And then I'm heading to @stillog.bar To hang out with the @lovetalkinsound crew. Being in Japan has its privledges aka I got me some #citypop records. Finally... I'm heading to Sacramento on Sunday nov9th, to @legendhasithifi and Nov 10th we at @mom_sacramento. (more tba). Oh... Then I'm back in #hawaii to rock with my locals. I did a mixtape called nonstop about... 25 years a I did a mixtape called nonstop about... 25 years ago. (DAAAAMMN). All vinyl, recorded live, but all the vinyl were 12 inch. Ya'll know I'm on that #45 #7inch kick these days, so let's redo it with the latest weapons of choice. Did this in one take before I headed to the airport. Heading back to the states - Hawaii, NYC, Toronto, San Jose, and Sacramento.... Come hangout wit ya boy in the next 3 weeks. Also, tested out the #showasteel #45 adaptors by @kutfaster45. This is from his press release letter he sent to me - S45 7-inch adapter we've been working on. The S45 was born from a collaboration between BREAKWELL and SHOWA Steel, a Japanese precision metal company that's been around since 1937. We put a lot of love into this piece - carefully selected materials, mirror-like finishing, and a snug fit designed to pair perfectly with the TECHNICS SL-1200. Because it's precisely engineered to fit tightly on the spindle, it might take a little technique the first couple of times when attaching or removing it - but it should quickly feel natural and comfortable in your hands. It's all about giving DJs like you the control and stability needed to cut up 45s with confidence. Alright let's get this out of the way first - Happ Alright let's get this out of the way first - Happy (belated) bday to @shortkut. Now I have told this story many a time, but short says he never heard it before so I'm gonna tell it here now to set the record straight. The reason I started getting into the battle scene was because of @shortkut, and these other Japanese #djs in the pictures. The year was 1994, summertime, and the venue was the #newmusicseminar. There was a famous #djbattle called the #nms battle for world supremacy, run by #djclarkkent... Yes that Clark Kent #rip #godsfavoritedj. That year I saw @shortkut, a fellow #filipinoamerican battle in front of a whollle lot of #hiphop heads. He didn't win that day, but he inspired me to start djing. Seeing someone who looked like me killing it made me think.... I could do that too. Soo, if you ever listened to one of my routines, listened to one of my mixtapes, saw me on stage with Mr Carter. You have @shortkut to thank. And then... These other djs pictured here. @djtashi, @djhonda_official and @djyutaka, I also met at that same new music seminar. I haven't seen Honda in about 20 years... I haven't seen yutaka in almost 30 years. At the time they were in a crew called ASAP... And seeing them also inspired to to jump on the ones and twos. Nowadays a lot of my #asian hip hop heads might think that the #filipinos have the most presence in the culture. Well, not back in the 90s. The #japan heads held it down HEAVY. They came thru to the @rocksteadycrew1977 Réunion in droves. And they were competing on the highest level. Don't even try to argue wit me cause I was there. Now 30 years later to call Japan my home, that's pretty wild to think about. @djtashi, hopefully we'll finally get to do a gig together next year. Let this dj journey come full circle. Anyways the ramblings of an old head. Shout to all my djs who made me who I am today. The #anabasaudio #portable turntable setup has been miniaturized in #gachagacha form. The detail on these is pretty dope with movable faders and a removable 45. For those that know the Anabas audio turntable is the relatively recent upgraded recreation of the classic #columbiagp3 turntable that got extremely popular in the 80s, and is a go to for many a #vinyldj when searching for them records. You could actually play a record on the real one standing vertically. There has been many a collaboration done with these turntables, including @supreme, @neighborhood and a whole gang of artists. So these gachas are a perfect gift for the #vinylhead in ya life. I have a couple of complete sets to put up for sale for my heads who can't get out to Japan to get they're own.
