For my 50th Bday - doing a limited edition run of 500 copies of my first solo mixtape. Originally put out by the Triple Threat DJs/ Staple on cassette tape. This was only available via CD in a physical format til now. A perfect stocking stuffer for the music lover in ya life.
Hip Hop songs mixed with their original sample counterparts. All Vinyl.
From The liner Notes of the 2nd pressing:
Original... This is the mix that started everything off for me.
Released in 2001 - All Vinyl, no bootlegs - pre pro-tools era on a minidisc multi-track. It was inspired by a liveset I saw DJ Spinna perform at an ITF Battle where he was flipping original samples live. The cover design was done by my homie Chris Sealey. We found this pic of me as a youngin, and this visual would end up being something I would end up repeating for many of my mixtapes.
Back then the internet was in its infancy. There wasn’t any searchable resource to find the original samples for songs. So, you generally had to get your hands dirty, hope for a little bit of luck, and dig. A very different time then how it is today, where you can jump on discogs and often find anything u desire. The 1st version of this actually came out on cassette, released by Staple Clothing & my crewmate Vinroc’s other crew - the Triple Threat DJs.
Since it was my 1st "for sale" tape, I really didn't know what I was doing when I had to get it ready for production. So in 2004, I remastered it. The bass was a bit deeper, the highs a bit tighter, the blends a bit cleaner.
Now in 2024, 20 years later - I’m doing a special run of these on cassette USB for the 1st time. I want to thank everyone who has listened to and supported my projects over the years. At the ripe young age of 50, I still love the art of making a mixtape. and all the crazy things I’ve done over the years wouldn’t have been possible, if you didn't pick up this 1st one...
