Started in 2013, Dinner & A Mixtape has been held in New York, Hong Kong, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Manila, Philippines, and all over the United States.

The idea is simple. Food and Music are similar art forms that go hand in hand. The ability to take sound and manipulate it into a beautiful song is very similar to how a chef takes ingredients and turns a plate of food into a work of art. DJ Neil Amstrong’s interest in both led him to create the concept of joining the two together into one event. Thus was born, Dinner & A Mixtape – a play on that classic American “date night”. Instead of Dinner and A Movie, you get dinner and great music.

The soundtrack is provided by a new installment in DJ Neil Armstrong’s mixtape library. Part eating experience, part listening session: the food nourishes the body, and music feeds the soul. Attendees also go home with a copy of DJ Neil Armstrong’s latest on cassette USB,  giving diners the opportunity to bring part of the experience home with them. For this installment, the featured mixtape is Still Nonstop – an all live vinyl set, exploring the the musical DNA of the Hip Hop songs that we love.

In the past Dinner & Mixtape has collaborated with great chef’s like Roy Choi of Locol and Dale Talde of Top Chef Fame. This time around we bringing good eats and beats to RYE in Salt Lake City.

RYE is Salt Lake City’s answer to early-morning eats and afternoon delights. Craft cocktails, tasty brews, updated classics–all locally sourced and crafted with love. 

At RYE, classic American favorites are given a modern, Asian-fusion twist, and executed to perfection by our red-letter kitchen crew, lead by Executive Chef Andrew Lund. We also feature craft cocktail creations by mixologist Ryan Manning, and delectably in-house-made desserts by a proficient team of pastry pros.

We know first-hand that buying local is best. That’s why we peddle products from a few of our friends. We serve meats from Snake River Farms, Ballard Hog Farm, and Canyon Meadows Ranch, bread from Eva’s Bakery, produce from New Roots, chocolate from Solstice, coffee from Publik, La Barba, and Blue Copper, and brews from High West, Squatters, and Wasatch Brewery. And that’s just a taste.
