Ok , so if you’ve been following me for a while now, I’ve been DJing this event for Adidas for a looong time, I think since maybe even 2004.

Last year, Adidas called it Adicup in honor of the world cup. This year, we return to calling it FANATIC, and as it turns out, this is the 10 year anniversary of the event started here in Merry Ole NYC. Thus, Fanatic X.

The event will take place at Chelsea Waterside Park on July 9 and will include not only soccer but also a BBQ, drinks and music by yours truly. Check the list of teams and address below.

Cape Town South Africa… y’all need to go their one day.

Yeah, thats what it looks like up top. Beautiful.

I got to go a month ago, representing for Adidas during the world cup at their Three Stories event space. The only bad thing about this trip, I only had a day and a half to take it all in before I headed off to Johannesburg aka JoBurg for my adidas gig over there…

But before we get to the gig itself, lets take a few more looks at the environment. Shut down your ideas of how Capetown might be.

It is a truly cosmopolitan city, with beautiful views and nice people. A comparative world city – that would be miami… with mountains. So its even better.

Being out there for adidas during the world cup was as you can imagine a once in a lifetime experience…

I don’t have anything to compare it too because I’ve never been there before, but Shawn explained to me that you could feel the festiveness of the south africans, how they were pulling together, their pride in hosting such a high level international event.

Adidas created this Three Story Space – literally, for all the party people to come to to enjoy that atmosphere of celebration – Adidas Style.

Consisting basically of a gallery space, a Skatepark and A viewing area for the World cup games, this was the adidas blockparty add come alive.

And a big shout out to Jared – who gave me this fly Litho Book Plate for this project that he’s working on about South African Urban Art….

The day I was there was the day that Ghana played their infamous game with Uraguay. Everyone there was backing Ghana because they were the last African Country in the Cup. Soooo, as you can imagine, moral was on the low side ;)

BUT, ya can’t hang your head low forever, and my job became to make sure they could forget their problems for a bit and groove. Ya know what… let me stop yapping, cause it was all captured nicely on video below…

Ughh… So sad that I only got to chill there for a day. Oh well, more the reason for me to head back out there.
On that note – peace to Shaun Duvet of http://www.anythinggoes.co.za/ – the agency who for getting me out there ;) we have to do it again soon (hint hint)…

Next stop was my last stop…. Johannesburg.

The New Zealand Wrapup

Yes Yes, healing When I went to New Zealand , diagnosis I definitely felt like a king for a day, thanks to the good folk at adidas, Show Room 22, and Frank and Ivy Liew of Qubic (http://www.qubicstore.com/) and quarters.

From the moment I got off the plane the new zealand Hospitality was imminent , with a nice hand written welcome note and a few gifts ,including the local Rugby Team ALL BLACKS jersey and a boxset of New Zealand Music Artist hits, which I’ve gladly added to my music collection.

i got to do it all it seemed, from Bungy Jumping, to Interviews, to good eats, to site seeing and Party Rocking…

It was ALL captured by NICELY here by frank liew and qubic, directed by Sean Wallace. Another “Day in the Life” type video, with a lot more in depth interviewing and a really good look at what its like for me on the road….

In fact, I had 2 GROUPS of cameras following me, as I made the LATE NIGHT NEWS on TVNZ in their showbiz section…

For those planning a Next GREAT Trip, I would highly suggest New Zealand…

Their Humor is amazin – as we all know from FLIGHT of the Concords and their bungy jumping – look at how their bathrooms look, and their “waiver sheet” , which they call a “toe tag”. HILARIOUS.

The food is pretty dang tasty – they even have REAL ACAI, like the stuff down in Brazil, not that American Crap. This is the only other place I’ve seen this stuff served Proper.They got proper meat pies (pause) and of course there is Burger Fuel, which I think gives In & Out a run for their money as far as Burgers go…

They got great stores like Qubic and Quarters for your street wear needs –

They even got Benecio Del Toro Selling ICe cream out there. COME ON. How crazy is that.

They got great local artists like David Dallas holding it down over there ON a global scale , as his work has been blogged up on Kanye Wests site.

SHOOT – I even ran into STEVE AOKI , our first meeting , A NY and LA AUCKLAND Connection –

As you can imagine, I can’t wait until I get to hit the other side of the world again… and I suggest that y’all make New Zealand a Destination on YOUR world tour …

This is one of my FAVORITE GIGS to do, as I end up djing for a looooong time and get to play all types of music, While, my friends like Sky Gellatly play some FUTBOOOOOLLLL!! Here is some background for those that don’t know –

adidas celebrates 2010 FIFA World CupTM with a global football tourney, honoring its long-lived New York City tradition.

To commemorate the 2010 FIFA World CupTM, adidas’ 9th annual FANATIC soccer tournament in New York City is “going global” with a new name – adiCup, 2010 FIFA World CupTM edition. A record 28 teams will compete Saturday, May 22nd on the main field at New York’s Pier 40, where the event first began eight years ago.

Hosted by adidas, FANATIC was created in 2002 as an immersive experience of soccer and community in New York. adidas sought out an eclectic mix of ‘football’ enthusiasts; an assortment of teams made up of originative activators in the creative scene. From music and media to fashion and hospitality, those involved were hand picked to re-engage the culture in downtown New York with the sport of soccer. Since its inception, FANATIC has grown with every passing year, drawing an abundance of teams vying to compete, and crowds of up to 1,500 soccer ‘fanatics’ and counting. In addition, the tournament was interpreted on a global scale in select cities every four years during FIFA World CupTM, and adiCup was born.
